When FLARE predicted the top hair trends of 2020, there was no way we could have foreseen this time of quarantine—and the risks celebs were going to take with their hair while isolating at home. From celebrities like Miley Cyrus embracing the mullet to Kristen Stewart’s enduring commitment to the genderless haircut trend (but orange!), stars are letting their hair do the talking in 2020—and we’re ready to listen.
Zac Efron has a mullet. We repeat, Zac Efron has a mullet. On December 19, Australian barbershop Attaboy shared photos of a celebrity visitor: actor Zac Efron. “@zacefron dropped into @attaboy_hair Kent Town for a tidy up today, so we gave him a mullet,” the shop revealed via Instagram, alongside a series of photos of Efron in the shop, including one of his teeny, tiny new mullet. And will you judge us for saving we love it?
More hair change ups in the Hadid-Malik household! Just a day after her boyfriend Zayn Malik stepped out rocking a new platinum blonde ‘do, model Gigi Hadid took to Instagram to share her cute new bangs. “Fresh snow fresh cut,” Hadid captioned the selfie. I guess this means curtain bangs are *officially* here to stay for 2021?
Another celeb has lightened up. On December 15, new dad Zayn Malik showed off his quarantine makeover while stepping out in New York City, rocking newly blonde hair. This isn’t the first time the natural brunette has hit the bleach; the singer had blonde hair *and* a platinum beard in 2018.
Ariel who? On December 7, Kylie Jenner made fans wonder if, in fact, it’s actually redheads that have more fun, when she shared her new red hair on Instagram.
Festive hair in time for the holiday season? We absolutely love it!
Seems like the shag haircut is here to stay. On November 29, actor Debby Ryan shared her latest haircut, a very Miley Cyrus-inspired shag, on Instagram “Also cut a bunch of hair off my head last month or whenever,” Ryan captioned the carousel of photos and a video showing the transformation process. The cut was done by celeb hairstylist Kristin Ess. Is the shag going to be *the* cut of 2021? Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
KJ Apa looks a little less scruffy these days! The Riverdale actor was spotted sporting a *much* shorter hairdo while out and about in Vancouver on November 21. As Just Jared speculated, the cut is most likely for the time jump set to take place during the upcoming season of the CW show. We’re always here for a chic trim!
There’s nothing wrong with being “Confident,” especially when it comes to your hair, and singer Demi Lovato has confidence in spades. The “Cool for the Summer” singer—who’s best known for her long, dark locks—took showed off her drastic hair change on November 18. “New new,” Lovato captioned an Instagram carousel of photos of herself posing with her new bleach-blonde *and* half-shaved head!
The transformation came just days after she changed her hair mid-show (!) while hosting the November 15 People’s Choice Awards. The singer walked the red carpet a brunette and presented a short time as a blonde. “Look like someone was having a little more fun tonight… YES BLONDE HAIR on @ddlovato,” hair stylist Paul Norton captioned a video of Lovato presenting.
Guess she really loved that temporary blonde look!
Bangs are 100% still in and Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause is making a serious case for them. During the 2020 People’s Choice Awards, Stause debuted a chic pair of curtain bangs, proving that this year isn’t a complete garbage fire.
Ciara’s blue, but only when it comes to the colour of her hair. On November 12, the “Goodies” singer took to Instagram to share her latest hair update, with the singer dyeing her normally brunette hair ice blue! “Blu,” Ciara matter-of-factly captioned a selfie. Of course, she looks *stunning* and the colour is perfect as we head into winter. Ice Queen of our dreams, much?
Vanessa Hudgens just made a big hair change for fall. On November 11, the Princess Switch actor took to Instagram to share her latest haircut: a super short bob! “Soooo she’s short now,” Hudgens captioned a selfie. Hudgens says she got the chop from hairdresser Mandy Lyons after wrapping her latest film, Netflix’s Tick Tick Boom. Lyons also worked with Hudgens on Second Act, giving the actor a short haircut after that film wrapped as well—making this post-filming cut a tradition. “Kind of a tradition now,” Hudgens continued her caption. “Lol anyways. I love it.”
Another Kardashian-Jenner has gone blonde. On November 8, Kylie Jenner took to Instagram to show off her latest hair change, with the normally brunette-haired makeup mogul going fully blonde. “Hello fall,” Jenner posted a mirror selfie with her new ‘do.
It’s only a matter of time before Jenner makes another hair change, the only question is: What will she do next?
There isn’t a hair colour that Zendaya *can’t* pull off so it’s no surprise that she looks completely fab in her latest look. On October 24, the Euphoria actor took to Instagram to encourage her fans to vote, posting a video of she and and a friend dropping off their ballots. “Just a couple of voters dropping off their ballots,” Zendaya captioned the video. While we’re all here for voter registration, we’re equally here for the new blonde highlights she’s rocking. So chic!
Just in time for fall, Lizzo is showing us that Little Mermaid hair looks great on everyone. “Y’all can’t handle red Lizzo,” the singer captioned an October 25 Instagram video showing off her new ’do. And she’s 100% correct—we cannot handle this!!
Actor Dave Franco just made a huge hair change. On October, Franco was photographed out and about in Los Angeles rocking bleached blonde hair. The Now You See Me actor is set to star as a young Vanilla Ice in an upcoming film; could this be Franco getting into character?
Another blonde! On October 25, Magic Mike actor Joe Manganiello *also* debuted a new look, with the actor dyeing his naturally brown hair platinum blonde. We’re not sure if this is for an upcoming movie role or just a fun change-up in his everyday life, but we are certain that it’s 100% a look.
Halsey has a dramatic new ’do! The “You Should Be So Sad” singer took to Instagram on October 19 to show off her new buzzcut. “Just in time 4 beanie weather,” Halsey captioned a selfie of her newly shaved head. And of course, because this is Halsey, she looks chic as heck.
Bearded Ben is no more! The Batman actor, who sported a *heavy* beard for most of the pandemic, showed off his clean-shaven face on October 15, posting an Instagram video with friend Matt Damon as part of a new Omaze charitable initiative. The fundraiser allows fans to bid on lunch with the actors, with proceeds going towards supporting the Eastern Congo Initiative and Water.org. We’re all here for celebs that do good, and we’re *also* here for a fresh-faced Ben Affleck, because he looks good.
Taking a cue from J.Lo, Alicia Keys debuted her own set of freshly chopped bangs during her performance at the October 14 Billboard Music Awards. “New side of Alicia to introduce you to. Nice to meet you,” the “Girl on Fire” singer captioned an Instagram photo of herself, sporting the fresh fringe and a bejewelled jumpsuit. Chic and sleek!
J.Lo just got bangs and chances are you’re going to want them too. On October 13, Lopez’s longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton showed off the singer’s chic new fringe on Instagram. “@jlo got bangs today,” Appleton captioned his photo of the diva. While Lopez is no stranger to hair extensions—meaning this latest hair switch-up *could* be temporary—we’re crossing our fingers that it’s the real deal.
Who says fall means you can’t still have fun with rainbow hair colours? On October 9, Ashley Benson proved that pastel hair is still having a moment when she stepped out with boyfriend G-Eazy rocking baby pink highlights. The actor is no stranger to switching up her hair colour, having tried pretty much every hue under the sun. We love this fun change!
Joe Jonas just made a huge hair change. The new dad took to Instagram Stories on October 2 to show off his new cotton candy pink look with a selfie. But the change up isn’t just for personal pleasure; the “Cake By The Ocean” singer dyed his hair for a really great cause—Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Along with his newly coloured hair, Jonas showed off a sparkly pink ribbon, the symbol for breast cancer awareness, on his IG Stories.
We stan a philanthropic man!
Singer Bebe Rexha is following Lucy Hale’s lead and making a big colour change—and she did it all herself! On September 30, the “Last Hurrah” singer took at-home dye to the next level, colouring her hair a super fiery red colour and documenting the process for her fans. “New me watcha think?” Rexha captioned the sped-up video alongside a fire emoji. We can’t wait to see the finished product!
Actor Lucy Hale has tried pretty much every hair colour under the sun, but her latest colour may be one of our all-time faves—because Hale’s officially a redhead! On September 28, the Pretty Little Liars actor and her colourist, Kristin Ess, took to their respective Instagram accounts to show off Hale’s latest colour change. “Did a thing,” Hale captioned a video of herself, tousling her freshly done locks. “@lucyhale has had every hair color under the sun EXCEPT red,” Ess wrote alongside her own video. “My lil colorist heart is full and now we officially know this chick looks good with any hair color.” And we’d 100% have to agree.
If you thought pastel hair in quarantine was over, January Jones is here to prove you wrong. On August 24, the Mad Men actor showed off her latest hair change on Instagram. “What a difference a day makes,” Jones captioned the selfie with her new pastel pink ’do. Considering Jones has pretty much become synonymous with a blonde bob (which she’s sported for the past while), this is a pretty big hair switch-up.
New dad, new look! Just a few weeks after welcoming his daughter, Willa, with wife Sophie Turner, Joe Jonas showed off a bleached blonde buzzcut on his Instagram stories. How he found the time to do his hair with a newborn, we’ll never know! Cool dad level reached.
Just days after debuting a bleached blonde ‘do, Kaia Gerber switched things up, showing off a “punk” pink mane on Instagram. The kicker? She did the colour herself, under the watchful (virtual) eye of celeb hairstylist, Guido Palau. “I’ve always wanted to have pink hair,” the 18-year-old model told Palau. “We might as well try it now!”
Gaga debuted pastel hair on August 14, showing off the new look on Instagram with a caption that reads “Hello Merpeople.” The washed out shade of blue is *definitely* fit for a mermaid.
Taking a cue from Tiffany Haddish, rapper Azealia Banks just buzzed her hair! On August 1, Banks took to her Instagram stories to share the process of shaving her head completely bald. In the videos, Banks told fans she was inspired to take the plunge due to the coronavirus pandemic, saying: “The way these coronavirus cases are going around, I’m very scared to have someone take care of my natural hair. I’m going to keep a baldie and I’m going to rock my wigs.”
Singer Lana Del Rey is heading into August with a brand new look. On July 23, the Norman Fucking Rockwell! singer took to Instagram to show off her latest hair transformation, visiting a salon in Tulsa, Oklahoma to lighten her typically brunette locks to a honey blonde colour.
Does this mean a new album is on the way?
Say it ain’t so! On July 26, Queer Eye‘s Antoni Porowski shocked fans by debuting a buzz cut! The chef is known for his iconic (and seriously chic), head of lustrous hair, so this latest cut is a *major* switch-up. TBH, he still looks amazing.
Lizzo is a badass risk-taker, so it’s no surprise that the singer would apply the same mentality to her hair. On July 21, the “Juice” singer shared a series of photos of herself on Instagram, nude and covered in gold stars. The cherry on top? Seaweed green hair! “When they say ‘ima star’ this is what they mean,” Lizzo captioned the photo. We’re getting some *serious* Little Mermaid vibes from this new ‘do…Lizzo, is this an announcement?
Fresh off the announcement of her split from husband Ruston Kelly, Kacey Musgraves is debuting a fresh new look! On July 20 the singer’s hairstylist, Giovanni Delgado, shared a photo to Instagram of the typically raven-haired beauty, rocking a much softer shade of brown. “Gave @spaceykacey soft 70s brown hair + makeup,” Delgado captioned the photo.
And honestly, we’re in love.
The real way you know quarantine is winding down and the world is starting to open up? Everyone’s fun-coloured quarantine hair is going back to normal. Case in point: Dua Lipa is back to work, and back to her natural(-ish) hair colour. “[B]ack by popular demand,” the singer captioned a July 17 mirror selfie. In the photo—posted to her Instagram account—Lipa sticks out her tongue, showing off her newly coloured brunette hair. The performer went through a plethora of funky colours while quarantining with her BF Anwar Hadid, including orange and pink!
TBH, we’re sad to see them go.
Leave it to Tiffany Haddish to keep everyone entertained during lockdown. On July 7, the Girls Trip actor shaved her head live on Instagram for all her fans to see! In a series of videos, Haddish showed her transformation from a cropped to buzz cut. Speaking to people online who’d commented on Haddish’s mental health implying that cutting her hair off is indicative of a mental health crisis, Haddish said: “Why when a woman decides, ‘Hey, I’m gonna cut this hair off because I wanna see my scalp,’ she’s gotta have a mental problem?” The reason behind Haddish’s big cut? She just wanted to see her scalp. It’s as simple as that.
Modern Family star Ariel Winter is the latest celebrity to go blonde. On July 5, the actor shared a photo of herself to Instagram with her newly platinum blonde hair. “Winter Is Coming!!!!!!!!!!!” she captioned the photo, a reference to Game of Throne‘s Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) and her signature white-blonde hair in the HBO series.
It may be an old TV reference, but Winter’s new look is super fresh. We bet Dany would approve.
Never one to allow the attention be off her for *too* long, Kim Kardashian West show off her new hair look on Instagram on June 29, only hours after her sister, Khloé Kardashian, posted about her own big hair change.
In a series of videos shared on Instagram stories, KKW showed off her brand spankin’ new colour—and it’s super unexpected. “You guys I dyed my hair red,” Kim said in the video, which featured the reality TV star’s new bright read hair in a topknot. “Do you love it?”
It’s a surprising colour choice, but actually Kim, yes we kind of do love it.
Khloé Kardashian just celebrated her 36th birthday and she’s ringing in a new year with a brand new look. On June 28, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star shared an Instagram photo of herself with her signature blonde locks dyed a rich brown. “Birthday Glam,” the KUWTK star captioned the photo. “Tomorrow I’m flooding my time-line with party pics. BTW…I’m loving my brown hair. I never thought I would say that lol blonde still owns my heart but thus brown is giving me a little something right now.” Honestly Khlo, brunettes *do* have a lot of fun.
We’re calling it: Blonde is officially the colour of summer 2020. Within days of celebs like Kaia Gerber and Kylie Jenner debuting blonde hair, model Emily Ratajkowski made the switch, showing off her new bright blonde locks in a series of Instagram posts on June 23. The model is known for her dark brown hair, so this is a *major* change—and we love it.
Kylie Jenner is no stranger to switching up the colour of her hair (the makeup mogul is a BIG fan of coloured wigs), so we shouldn’t be too surprised by her latest colour change. On June 23, Jenner posted a series of Instagram photos showing off her new über blonde ’do.
Following Megan Thee Stallion’s new rainbow hair, Cardi B took to Instagram on June 17 to show off her newest ’d0, a super short, bright blue pixie cut! In a video posted on her Instagram feed, Cardi can be seen rocking the new colour (which matches her designer bag #goals), while calling out people online who are claiming that she edits her photos. The switch-up comes literally one day after the rapper showed off the same cut, but with a fuchsia colour (which also, incidentally, matched *another* one of the rapper’s designer bags). What colour do you think Cardi will go with next?
Fresh off her split from Cara Delevingne, Ashley Benson is freshening up her look—with extensions! The Pretty Little Liars actor, who has been sporting a chic bob in various colours over the past few years, debuted long, blonde hair on May 25, showing off new extensions by Los Angeles hairstylist Violet Teriti on Instagram. Benson also sported a lighter hue. It’s a major #TBT to her PLL character, Hanna Marin, and we love it!
Dwyane and Zaya Wade
We love a supportive family—and even more than that, we love a supportive family who’s chic AF. Enter the Wade fam. On May 22, retired basketball star Dwyane Wade posted a photo of himself with bubblegum pink hair on his Instagram. And just two days later, Wade took to the ’gram once more to reveal that he’d made a *slight* tweak to his new colour, this time showing off bright red hair. Wondering why Wade decided to make the switch? It probably has something to do with his teen daughter, Zaya. On May 24, Wade shared several videos to his TikTok account, one of which showed Wade and Zaya goofing around on the app—with Zaya showing off *her* new pink hair.
Now just waiting on Gabrielle Union and baby Kaavia to follow suit!
A blonde no more! Khloé Kardashian is using her time in quarantine to experiment with her hair colour, debuting a fresh new bronde hue on May 23. Taking to Instagram, the reality star—who has been blonde for some time now—shared a carousel of photos highlighting her new hair colour, captioning the photo series: “location: under bitches skiiiinnnnn.”
Maybe it’s an easier colour to keep up during quarantine?
Another blonde for the books! Following in the footsteps of celebs like Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber has also taken the time during quarantine to test out her latest colour, dying her signature dark brown locks blonde! The model first gave followers a glimpse of her new colour on May 16, when she shared a photo of herself in a bathing suit…and a cast! (The model appears to have broken her right wrist). We love the colour and are wishing Gerber a speedy recovery!
Arie Luyendyk Jr.
Quarantine hair transformations have officially reached Bachelor Nation. On May 13, season 22 Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. took to Instagram to share a photo of himself in lockdown—with a big difference. The usually silver-haired Bachelor is now platinum blonde! And honestly, we don’t hate it. (Plus, it matches his wife’s ’do, which is pretty cute).
OK, this is just getting out of hand (in the absolute best way). Keke Palmer is taking a cue from stars like Dua Lipa and using this time at home to experiment with a variety of fun hair colours. On May 10, the singer and actor took to Instagram to show off her latest dye job, sharing a photo of herself lounging on a bed rocking slime green hair. And it 100% works. This isn’t the first time Palmer has tried out a new colour while in quarantine. On April 29, Palmer posted a series of photos on Twitter and a video of herself dancing on Instagram rocking a bright orange ombré look.
Yet another celeb using quarantine to make a hair switch-up, Dua Lipa took the plunge on May 11, dyeing her short hair a raspberry red colour. The hair colour change came only weeks after Lipa dyed her hair *another* delicious fruit colour, debuting light tangerine hair, which the singer playfully dubbed “orangina quarantina” in an Instagram post, on April 25. Colour isn’t anything new for Lipa—since physical distancing started, she’s died her hair myriad colours (including pink!) while in isolation, all with the help of her BF, Anwar Hadid.
On April 16, Lipa shared a series of photos to her Instagram that showed Hadid helping his GF dye her hair. We love a helpful beau!
While a lot of people are nostalgic for a time when it was safe to go outside, it appears model Kendall Jenner is nostalgic for the days when she was blonde. The model—who first dyed her normally brunette locks blonde in September 2019 for fashion week—lightened her hair once again. On May 7, Jenner shared a video to her Instagram stories of herself fiddling around with a funky filter. While said filter may have warped her eye colour, fans couldn’t help but notice her significantly lighter hair. In a photo posted to Instagram on April 16, Jenner can be seen walking her dog with *pretty* light locks as well. So this was probably a hair change that’s just been kept on the DL.
We love the blonde, but our only questions for Kendall is: Who dyed it?
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Yet another celeb jumping on the funky hair colour train, Sarah Michelle Gellar just debuted rose-coloured locks. The actor and mom of two took to Instagram on April 28 to show off her new ’do—and reveal the intent behind it: embarrassing her kids. “Well, because we’re still in quarantine, I had to think of a new and creative way to embarrass my children. Quarancolour!,” Gellar said in the video.
TBH, there’s nothing embarrassing about how cute this colour is!
Is orange going to be the hottest hair colour of the summer? It sure looks like it—at least if Dua Lipa and Kristen Stewart’s new looks are anything to go off of. Stewart is yet *another* celeb who has decided to go wild when it comes to hair colour during quarantine, dyeing her short locks bright orange (or “cosmic rust,” as her colourist CJ Romero calls it). Romero took to Instagram on March 30 to debut Stewart’s new colour (and show us the process), posting a carousel of photos, including one of Stewart posing in front of an orange pool table with her matching dye job.
Her #TBT colour is just starting to make the rounds on social media now. “Orange” you glad we’re finally seeing it?
It was only a matter of time before people started giving themselves quarantine bangs, but leave it to Bella Hadid to give herself bangs that actually look good. On April 20, the model took to Instagram stories to show off her new cut, chic little curtain bangs. “I cut my bangs,” Hadid wrote on the story, before polling followers about whether or not they’d let her near their own hair with a pair of scissors. And after seeing the result of Hadid’s handiwork, I’d say 100% yes.
Quarantine is getting to the best of us, and that includes celebrities. On April 15, actor Armie Hammer shared a photo of himself with fans on Instagram, and he looks *a little* different than normal. In the photo, Hammer debuts a new (very tall and very curly) mohawk and handlebar moustache, the former of which was cut by himself. “Killing the game,” he captioned the photo.
And it is…a lot. Fingers crossed this ‘hawk was just a resting point on the road towards a fully buzzed head!
We’re now *deep* into quarantine, so it should come as no surprise that people are starting to turn to at-home dye jobs to cure their roots and their boredom—and that applies to celebs, too. Hilary Duff is the latest celeb to give dyeing her hair the old at-home try, debuting a new aquamarine-blue colour on Instagram on April 12. “Yea,” Duff captioned the post, alongside a shrugging meme.
In an Instagram Live the same evening, Duff’s hubby—musician Matthew Koma—revealed that he’s the one behind the dye job.
TBH, we think it looks great. And what better time to try a risky new colour than when legit no one will see you?
Jonathan Van Ness
We probably all felt the urge to do a little DIY hair makeover on the weekend, but Jonathan Van Ness actually caved. The Queer Eye star shaved off his whole moustache and beard, and he documented everything. The ‘stache and sides of the beard came off first, leaving him with a weird semi-goatee situation. He posted a pic saying, “This is officer Van Ness. Don’t try new lewks during quarentine [sic] (I’m shaving this chin thing off now just was aghast at how I look).”
OFC he wasn’t going to leave his face in that state (he’s *literally* a hairdresser), and a pic of his smooth baby face popped on his IG Stories a little bit later.
Yet another celeb has hopped on the chunky highlights train! (And no it’s not 2001 again, it just looks like it.) Potentially taking a cue from Ivanka Trump (or an early 2000s Kelly Clarkson), Lopez debuted some major highlights on March 11. Posting a photo to Instagram, Lopez’s usually honey brown hair was accented with *thick* caramel stripes. Not sure if we fully endorse, but we’re totally supportive of trying out something new!
Ready for her close up! Fresh off a break up with longtime love Austin Butler, actor Vanessa Hudgens lightened her locks for spring, showing off a warm chestnut brown colour in a March 10 post to Instagram.
The hit show Friends *is* having a moment, so it only makes sense that celebs would be channeling the famous character’s haircuts. Appearing on a March episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Selena Gomez debuted what some are calling the 2020 version of “The Rachel,” a layered, voluminous chop with the ends turned deliberately in. And we have to say, like the iconic haircut made famous by Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel Green, we love this new ’do.
What better way to kick off spring than with a fresh new cut—just ask The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. While on a royal tour of Ireland, HRH debuted new ’70s inspired bangs, and we are totally here for it! The new curtain fringe, which perfectly frames her face, is super cute and not to mention super stylish. Get it, HRH!
Kylie is the kween of changing up her hair; whether it’s a wig, a new cut or a fresh new colour, the makeup mogul loves to switch it up when it comes to her locks—and this might be our favourite hair change yet! On February 28, Jenner debuted a new caramel blonde colour—and we’re calling it, this’ll be the hair colour of 2020. The entrepreneur and mama to Stormi is currently on vacation and showing off her new colour all over the ’gram; and honestly, we can’t blame her. The colour is *that* good.
Justin Bieber’s upper lip is finally free! The Biebs posted a shot of his freshly shaven mug, nary a moustache hair in sight, captioned: “I shaved. MUSTASHIO went on holiday, but he will be back in due time.” Wife Hailey Bieber commented “yeeeeee,” followed by a heart-eye emoji. Even Bieber’s mama Pattie Mallette was into it, commenting, “Ya praise God.” The Justache won’t be gone long judging by the pic’s caption, so enjoy it while it lasts, ladies.
We love a big hair change—especially when said hair happens to *not* be on your head. Lady Gaga debuted a fresh eyebrow look on February 13 when she posted a selfie rocking bleached brows. “Sushi!!!!!,” the singer captioned the photo of herself on Instagram. The A Star is Born actor is far from the first celeb to rock the “no eyebrow” trend (RiRi infamously donned subdued brows on the September 2018 cover of Vogue UK), but we honestly love this look on Gaga!
Kim Kardashian West
Never one to stick to a singular beauty look for long, Kim Kardashian West did a complete 180 degree switch-up from her normally dark hair, revealing a warm honey blonde in her Instagram stories on February 11. The jury’s still out on whether or not this is a wig (as Cosmopolitan points out, the Kardashian-Jenner fam *loves* their wigs), but either way, we love this warm hue for spring!
In the middle of promo for her latest album Rare, singer Selena Gomez took a few moments on February 10 to show off her newest cut and colour on the ‘gram. With her curly lob and honey highlights, Gomez’s latest hair look is giving us some serious Jennifer Lopez vibes. We love it!
Also using the Oscars to debut a fresh, new ‘do was actor and activist Jane Fonda. Taking the stage to present the final award of the night—Best Picture, which went to Parasite—Fonda shocked the crowd with her fab icy blonde colour and and shorter cut. According to her colourist Jack Martin, who also posted an Insta photo, the process took seven hours.
Well, it appears that Little Women star Saoirse Ronan has answered the age old question: “Should I get bangs?” The answer, my friends, is a resounding yes. The actor debuted her new fringe on the Oscars red carpet. She may not have taken home the Best Actress trophy, but she definitely wins a beauty award from us.
There’s no better time to make a new hair debut than on the red carpet for the biggest night in Hollywood. The Crown’s Olivia Colman walked the Oscars red carpet on February 9 with voluminous sleeves, a bit of bling and a new blonde ’do! The switch up is a refreshing change for the usually brunette actor and she pulls it off like a true *cough* queen *cough.*
It looks like 2020 is set to be the year of the celeb mullet! Only days after singer Miley Cyrus debuted her much shorter 10-90, Euphoria actor Barbie Ferreira followed suit. Ferreira, already no stranger to a chic bob, debuted her shortest and edgiest look yet on her Instagram stories. In the post, Ferreira also gave a shout-out to her hairdresser, Laurie Heaps, for the cool, choppy mullet. We’re absolutely ~euphoric~ over this hair change. And TBH, it might even be better than Miley’s?!

Stepping out for the premiere of her new film Underwater, Kristen Stewart’s typically edgy locks were even more punk-looking than usual thanks to a trim by stylist Adir Abergel and a little more bleach. We are here for her blonder ’do! Stewart is no stranger to the genderless haircut, and we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more KStew-inspired cuts popping up on some of our fave celebs.
On January 6, the singer took to Instagram to show off much shorter locks in a series of three Instagram posts sharing the hairstyle change while teasing forthcoming new music. “New Hair. New Year. NEW MUSIC!,” the “Mother’s Daughter” singer captioned the posts. The shaggy cut is a shorter-version of the very popular (but controversial) mullet Cyrus debuted in November 2019, and if the number of posts gracing Cyrus’s feed are anything to go off of, she’s defs feeling her new look.
Not only is Cyrus’s new hairdo a nod to her dad’s famous mullet, it also reminds us (and a ton of fans in the comments) of another badass female rockstar, singer Joan Jett. Musician @thisiswatt commented “Cherry Bomb” on one of the posts, referencing the title of one of Jett’s most famous songs. Model @willam had a similar idea, commenting “Runaways vibes. Happy 2020!” on the same post (a reference to Jett’s 1970s-era band, The Runaways).
Does this new look mean we can expect a more of a rocker vibe from Cyrus’s 2020 music?
